The Langtang Valley Trek is a classic Himalayan journey that blends mountain scenery, rich culture, and accessible trekking routes just north of Kathmandu. Often called the “valley of glaciers,” Langtang offers dramatic landscapes shaped by ice, rivers, and forested slopes, all within the protected wilderness of Langtang National Park.
The trail follows the Langtang Khola through dense rhododendron, oak, and bamboo forests, home to wildlife such as red pandas and Himalayan birds. As you climb higher, the scenery opens to alpine meadows, yak pastures, and traditional Tamang villages that reflect strong Tibetan-Buddhist influences through prayer wheels, chortens, and monasteries.
The cultural and scenic highlight of the trek is Kyanjin Gompa, set beneath the towering face of Langtang Lirung. From here, optional hikes to nearby viewpoints reward trekkers with sweeping views of glaciers and snow-covered peaks.

Depart Kathmandu early in the morning and drive approximately 7 hours (about 122 km) to Syabrubesi, the gateway to the Langtang Valley. The scenic route winds through hills, terraced farmland, rivers, and rural villages. Syabrubesi is a small mountain town inhabited mainly by Tamang and Sherpa communities and offers basic facilities and teahouses. Overnight at a lodge in Syabrubesi.
