A 2-day hike to the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m / 13,671 ft) is a popular and achievable challenge for fit hikers with limited time. This classic itinerary follows the most direct route from Imlil, offering spectacular scenery, cultural encounters, and a rewarding summit experience.
Day 1: Imlil (1,740 m) → Toubkal Refuge (3,200 m)
Drive: 1.5–2 hours from Marrakech to Imlil
Distance: ~11 km (6.8 miles)
Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
Elevation Gain: ~1,460 m
Overnight: Toubkal Refuge (Les Mouflons or CAF Refuge)
The trek begins in the mountain village of Imlil, winding through traditional Berber settlements and terraced fields before following the valley along a mountain stream. You’ll pass the sacred Sidi Chamharouch shrine, a common rest stop for trekkers, before continuing the steady ascent to the Toubkal Refuge, your base camp for the summit attempt. Most hikers start this day in the late morning to allow for a comfortable pace and acclimatization.
