Today, we embark on an unforgettable journey along the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 🏔️. Early in the morning, our transportation will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco 🚐, according to your train schedule. We will then travel to Ollantaytambo Station, where we will board a train 🚆 to Kilometer 104 (Chachabamba, 2,200 m / 7,218 ft). This scenic train ride, lasting approximately 1.5 hours, offers breathtaking views of the Andean landscape 🌿.
Upon arriving at Kilometer 104, we officially begin our hike 🥾. At the checkpoint, you will need to present your passport, foreign resident card, or national ID 📄. Shortly after starting the trek, we will stop at the Chachabamba archaeological site, an ancient Inca complex hidden within the lush subtropical forest 🌳.
As we ascend along well-preserved Inca stone staircases, we will be surrounded by cascading waterfalls, vibrant orchids, and rich vegetation 💦🌺. After approximately four hours of trekking, we will arrive at Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,694 ft), one of the most breathtaking archaeological sites along the Inca Trail. Here, we will take time to explore its fascinating terraces and structures before enjoying a well-deserved box lunch 🥪.
After a refreshing break, we continue hiking for two more hours, following a picturesque trail leading to Inti Punku, the "Sun Gate" (2,720 m / 8,924 ft) ☀️. This once served as a checkpoint for entry into Machu Picchu and now rewards us with a spectacular panoramic view of the citadel and its lush surroundings 🏛️🌄. From this iconic spot, you will catch your first breathtaking glimpse of Machu Picchu.
From Inti Punku, we descend for about 30 minutes until we reach the outskirts of Machu Picchu (2,490 m / 8,169 ft), where we will have a magnificent view of the citadel before heading to our accommodation. To end the day, we will take a 25-minute bus ride 🚌 down to the town of Aguas Calientes (2,160 m / 7,087 ft), where we will check into a comfortable three-star hotel .
For those who still have energy, an optional visit to the hot springs ♨️, just a 10-minute walk away, is available for an additional fee.
