Your Machu Picchu Inca Trail adventure begins with a 5:00 am pickup from your Cusco hotel. We'll journey to Ollantaytambo and board a scenic train to the trailhead at Km104. Upon arrival, your expert local guide will provide a comprehensive tour briefing, preparing you for the trek ahead.
Our first stop is the captivating Chachabamba archaeological site. Located amidst a beautiful jungle setting atop a hill, Chachabamba offers stunning panoramic views. As we hike, we'll be treated to frequent vistas of the Urubamba River. A moderate climb brings us to Wiñay Wayna (2,650m / 8,694 ft), meaning “forever young” in Quechua. Here, our guide will bring the history of this remarkable site to life, highlighting its agricultural terraces, religious significance, and urban layout.
The trail then leads us along a picturesque stone path clinging to the edge of the highland jungle cliffs. After an hour, we'll reach the Sun Gate (Intipunku), the traditional ceremonial entrance to Machu Picchu. Prepare to be amazed by your first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu. From here, a 40-minute descent takes us to the magnificent Machu Picchu citadel, the "Lost City of the Incas." Rediscovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, this architectural marvel is a complete town, boasting diverse quarters, plazas, alleyways, buildings, astronomical observatories, and impressive terraces. A shuttle bus will then transport you to Aguas Calientes, where you'll relax, enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant, and check into your comfortable hotel.
